Oriental Photo dates from 1919, when it was Japan's only producer of photosensitive materials. Not content with having devised the world's most respected graded cold-tone fiber paper, Oriental has at various times introduced warm-tone and variable-contrast papers, as well as a line of commercial color papers. The variable-contrast paper remains in production, along with New Seagull graded, supplemented by a range of resin-coated papers for student and commercial users.
